The KGL route was historically used by nomadic Bakarwal shepherds migrating with their flocks across the high passes. Over the last two decades, it has become one of India’s most celebrated alpine trekking routes due to its extraordinary chain of glacier lakes.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar

Pickup from airport, transfer to houseboat. Briefing and gear check.

Day 2: Drive to Sonmarg and trek to Nichnai

Scenic drive to Sonmarg. Forest trails to wide valleys and camp at Nichnai..

Day 3: Nichnai to Vishansar via Nichnai Pass

Ascend to the pass; descend to the stunning Vishansar lake basin.

Day 4:Explore Vishansar & Krishansar

Rest day for exploration and acclimatization.

Day 5:Vishansar to Gadsar via Gadsar Pass

Climb the highest point (13,800 ft); camp near Gadsar.

Day 6:Gadsar to Satsar

Cross flowering meadows and several water crossings.

Day 7:Satsar to Gangbal & Nandkol via Zaj Pass

Reach the twin Gangbal lakes below Mount Harmukh.

Day 8:Gangbal to Naranag to Srinagar

Steep descent, drive to Srinagar, final stay.
